1. Can I apply for a Personal Licence?

Yes, if you…

  1. Are aged 18 or above
  2. Hold an accredited licensing qualification
  3. Have not had a Personal Licence forfeited in the last five years, and
  4. Do not have a ‘unspent’ conviction for a ‘relevant or foreign’ offence or required to pay an immigration penalty.
  5. Have the right to work in the UK. NB A UK Passport or Right to Work Card is usually sufficient.

2. Do I need a Personal Licence?

You do if you want to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol by retail in accordance with a premises licence or a temporary event notice.

3. Do you need a Personal Licence to apply for a Premises Licence?

No.  But if you intend to use the Premises for the sale of alcohol you will need nominate a Designated Premises Supervisor on your application form who must hold or intend to hold a Personal Licence and can be yourself.

4. How do I get a Personal Licence?

You must apply to the Licensing Authority (usually the Council) where you live and provide the following:

  1. Your Qualification Certificate.
  2. A valid Basic DBS Certificate
  3. A copy of your Passport or Right to Work Card, or similar
  4. Two passport photos, one certified on the reverse
  5. The completed application form, available from the Council.
  6. A Previous Convictions Declaration Form also from the Council.
  7. The fee for the application – currently £37.
5. How much does a Personal Licence cost?

The costs are:

  1. Council Application fee – £37
  2. Basic DBS Check – £23. Apply using the link: https://www.gov.uk/request-copy-criminal-record
  3. The cost of your Licensing Qualification– fees vary.
  4. Any fee payable if you employ a company to complete the paperwork for you.
6. Who can apply for a Personal Licence?

Anyone, provided they…

  1. Are aged 18 or above
