SUCCESS for BAILEY WINES in BISHOPS STORTFORD

Bailey Hills Estate, lovingly owned and nurtured by Dylan Ford, is a vineyard and winery located to the north-west of Bishop’s Stortford. Established in May 2018 with an initial four acres of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay vines intended for English sparkling wine production, the vineyard has since expanded to include the neighbouring six-acre Hazel End Vineyard, which features more established Bacchus vines. 

This application was to continue and support future plans for the promotion and development of the estate, which is committed to being an eco-friendly, off-grid winery powered by solar energy, with its own water supply and a biomass boiler, aspiring for sustainable and carbon-neutral wine production. In addition to the existing vineyard expansion, there are also plans for a cider apple orchard and a willow plantation to expand the biodiversity of the area.

Alongside the winemaking facilities, future visions for Bailey Hills encompass vineyard holiday lets and fishing huts to create a destination that combines agricultural production with tourism and leisure activities. 

This modest application sought to support these plans by securing the necessary permissions for the sale and supply of alcohol from a warehouse and associated buildings located adjacent the vineyard to guests of the estate in relation to providing guided tours, tasting, promotional, and educational events within the vineyard; as well as the storage of alcohol products for a ‘pick, pack and despatch’ operation fulfilling orders received by telephone and online via the company website.

So: Congratulations to Dylan and all at the Bailey Hills Winery on the grant of a Premises Licence to enable the winery to host guided tours, wine tasting, promotional, and educational events within the vineyard and the sale of their outstanding English wines direct to visitors.
